Welcome to 6th Grade English/Literature!

Thank you for visiting my class webpage! Here you will find homework, class documents, and fun resources that extend what we've discovered together. Parents and families, I will also include simple ways that you can support your child's learning. Finally, I hope to celebrate students' accomplishments here as we progress through our learning targets. I plan to update these pages each week.

About Me
 awong

I attended the College of William & Mary in Williamsburg, VA for both my B.A. in English Literature and my M.A.Ed. in Secondary English Curriculum & Instruction. I have previously taught 9th, 11th, and 12 grade English, and this year (2018-19) will be my first year teaching in a middle school. I am a certified yoga instructor (200RYT) and am passionate about holistic wellness. The better we feel in our bodies, the better we can learn in our brains!

Message to Parents & Families

I consider it a huge honor and responsibility to be a part of your children's education. I know you want your children to have everything they need to lead good lives - I am devoted to doing my part as their sixth grade English teacher. I am extremely passionate about empowering young people with a sense of self-efficacy - and with any luck, a love of reading and writing. In this rapidly changing world, no single adult can teach a child everything she or he needs to know. That is why I devote myself to teaching reading: as long as children embrace reading, the lessons they can seek are truly limitless. As for writing, I believe that if children embrace writing, they can be heard, respected, and understood - by both others and themselves.

I know that everybody’s time is precious, and I never want to take yours for granted. That being said, research shows that regular communication between school and home is essential for students’ academic success. I cannot overemphasize how much of an impact you can have on your child’s learning, simply by asking about school at home. I will do my best to foster a connection between school and families by updating these webpages, keeping you informed about student progress, and inviting you into the learning process every step of the way.

Thank you so much for your time, support, and partnership. To contact me, please feel free to email, call, or send a note in with your child. I am so grateful to be in on this journey with you and your children.

Respectfully yours,
Ms. Wong
