Students overall did very well on the Physical Science simulation.  We are looking forward to finishing up content so we can review before the SOL.  It does seem early to be talking about the SOL, but we only have about 48 days left in the school year.  The SOL review booklet has been uploaded and you will receive a hard copy after spring break.  Please look out for it since you will have a daily assignment. This week we are finishing up waves and will then move on to electricity and magnetism.

We are currently studying waves and how they interact.  Students will have a snapshot Friday, March 3.

Sharing is caring with covalent bonds. Giving and taking are ionic bonds. Students are discovering how atoms of different elements bond together to form compounds.

Students have been learning about the discovery of the atom and how the periodic table helps categorize each individual atom.  With the addition of new vocabulary, please help them study daily.

We have begun learning about matter. We will be discussing and reviewing the phases of matter and the differences between an element, a compound, and a mixture. Students must be able to identify the physical and chemical properties. They must also be able to describe the differences between physical and chemical changes. ? Remember:  You have mass and you take up space, therefore, YOU MATTER!

So far this school year, we have discussed lab safety, metric measurement and lab tools.  The students took a snapshot on Friday and did really well.  We are now learning about density and its importance in science.  Don't forget to plug each number into the formula correctly.

With the start of a new academic year it is especially important for all of our students to consider what their expectations are for the coming school year. Here, at Breckinridge, we have three expectations; (1.)Speak and respond positively and appropriately to others, (2.)Come prepared, participate, and have a positive attitude towards learning, and (3.) Be aware of your space, of others, and to always use your inside voice while you are in our building. Our Breckinridge "Major Core Values" revolve around three pillars: Respect, Responsibility, and Safety. Through these pillars, modeling, and discussion, we plan to foster your students learning moments in regards to academics, behavior, and attitude. We know that positive goal setting will be our first step towards your student's long lasting learning achievement. We ask that your student embrace our values and look forward to their growth and many new achievements. I wanted you all to know how excited I am to begin this school year. Please know that I have an open door policy and you may come see me any time you have questions or concerns. I wish you the very best of luck and know we will have an awesome school year! I look forward to working closely with each and every one of you.
